About Black Diamond Group History
Black Diamond was founded in 1959 by Raymond Teglia and originally known as Paving Mix and Construction Co., Inc.
Very quickly, the company earned a reputation for producing high-quality asphalt materials and building superior pavements and for the honesty and integrity of their dealings.
A decade after its founding, the company outgrew its space and built a new one-ton hot mix asphalt batch plant at Howell and Rawson Avenues in Oak Creek. With this added capacity the company grew, and by 1979 the construction division was serving the residential, commercial, industrial and public markets. That same year, the company moved into new office and shop facilities at the south end of the Oak Creek property.
By 1983 production capacity had to be increased once again, and the company entered into a lease agreement on a two-ton batch plant in Franklin, WI
In 1988, Black Diamond added a milling division, augmenting the services offered by the company. That year Deborah Teglia, daughter of the founder, assumed the role of company President.
In 1990, the company discontinued the asphalt plant lease and built a new four-ton hot mix batch plant. Black Diamond received the national environmental award for hot mix facilities from the National Asphalt Pavement Association. The award signified that the Hot Mix Production Division's attention to public concerns and awareness was better than that of any other facility in the country.
Deb Teglia and her brother Joe bought the company from their father in 1995. In 2000 the company was restructured, putting a management team at the apex of the organization. The new structure stimulated sales and productivity, and assured that customers and employees would receive the management attention they required from the growing company.
In 2002, the management team changed the name of the company to Black Diamond Group, Inc. The name was chosen to exemplify the strength and durability of its product, and the value and quality the company offers its customers and employees.
Black Diamond increased its hot storage capacity by 50% in spring of 2004, improving its load-out timing to insure crews and customers timely service. Significant plant modifications were also constructed to increase the plants ability to process recycled materials and operate more energy efficient.
In March of 2005, Black Diamond launched a concrete division to compliment its successful asphalt business. The concrete division was set up to perform curb and gutter, sidewalks, approaches and barrier walls side by side with the asphalt division, further strengthening the companies distinct advantage of being recognized as the easiest company to do business with.
In January of 2009, Black Diamond moved into their new company headquarters located on 6th Street in Oak Creek. The site showcases several of Black Diamond's quality products including many of the latest Green Initiatives. The property represents the style and attention to detail that Black Diamond approaches their customers with when called on to build their own Welcome Mats.
Black Diamond's 50th year in business was
celebrated in 2009. This same year the South Suburban Chamber of Commerce awarded Black Diamond with their Business of the Year Award. The award is based on a company's ability to achieve superior success in business and one which demonstrates a willingness to contribute to the local community that it serves and to the community at large.
With a desire to lead the firm forward and grow on their solid foundation and strength in the market, Deb Teglia purchased full ownership of Black Diamond in December, 2010.
